BONESAW: SET REPORT--DAY 3
Last night was the final night of the BONESAW shoot, and it was all dialogue. I arrived at the location around 5pm to see KENSINGTON STONE waiting at the foot of the long climb of steps which led to the apartment in Echo Park. BOOMASTER arrived on my heels and together the three of us sought out the location. After knocking on the wrong door (thankfully, no one was home), we found the right place and went inside. It was a nice, cozy apartment, reminding me of some places in Chicago, but with that California twist. I met the lovely young lady who rented the place and our star of the evening, porn star—sorry, ex-porn star TINA TYLER, who was playing the victim. JEREMY SPENCER and DREW WARNER were ga-ga over the gal, and it's easy to see why: she's smart, funny, energetic and a joy to have around.
Jeremy told us they had done glamour shots of JASON TIYA, BOBBY WILLIAMS and BONESAW earlier that day and described the dvd cover insert to us. Bonesaw's hand would be holding a sawblade reflecting his face, while Jason held out the gun defensively and Bobby reacted. I think Jason is an interesting choice as the model to feature on the box, but I can't wait to see how it turns out.
As we were setting up lights, I got a call on my cell phone. I stepped into the bathroom and shut the door for some privacy. It was not a good call.
After a quick meal from McD's (I only had a chaulk-olate shake, as I'd already eaten) and a game we called Porn Star Ringtones (we improvised ringtone messages that various porn stars would record for other people's cell phones), we began shooting. Tina comes in the door carrying groceries. Realizing that the unlocked door means that someone might be in her apartment, she calls her friend to keep her company while she looks around. Nothing in the kitchen, the bathroom or the closet, she is convinced that everything is fine. But when she goes back into the kitchen, she does not see our favorite killer sneaking up behind her with the razor-sharp lid from a cat food can until it's too late and then—-well, there's a reason why they call these types of films "slashers."
Again, we shot two versions: one dry and one wet. Tina, bless her soul, acted her heart out, clasping her throat and falling hard to the floor, not once, but several times. Then, we did it bloody. Kensington put a cut on her throat, and I placed Tina's hand on her neck where I wanted it. Then he put a capful of blood on her.
Not enough. I wanted more.
Another capful.
Still not enough, but I was concerned about the blood ruining Tina's blouse. "Forget it," she said, "I got it cheap at a second-hand store just for this shoot." I turned to the makeup artist.
"Pour it from the bottle," and Kensington did. When it was running over her fingers, I felt it was good. I rolled camera, Bonesaw slashed, Tina spun and fell. We did it one more time, and it was golden.
We hurriedly cleaned the place up, as we all had somewhere else to be. We hugged each other, and Tina ran through the living room topless crying "Excuse my boobs!" as she headed to the bathroom to clean the blood off. She mentioned that she was going to the Four Seasons for dinner, and I pointed out a small smudge of blood underneath one ear. "It looks like a hickey," I said. She smiled. "Great! I'll leave it on!"
We locked the joint up and hugged each other all over again. I asked Jeremy when the movie was due to be released, and he said March or April. Gulp. Why am I typing this blog? I need to start editing NOW!
Everyone left except Boomaster and I. We talked a bit, and I told him about the phone call I'd gotten earlier that evening. His face fell.
More to come.
