HOW DO YOU MAKE A NAZI CROSS?

Step on his toes.

I want to make two more Red Devil movies before the end of the year. Well, before December 16th.

One of them was a drama called UNSPEAKABLE, about Jagger, a young man who hunts ex-Nazis who escaped WWII without being brought to justice. His latest target is Hahn Klug, a notorious concentration camp warden, who he discovers is living in Los Angeles under the name Henry Kingston. Jagger comes calling, but discovers that the elderly Hahn is on his deathbed. And not only that...but the old man's attractive caregiver/grandson (Jagger's age) has no idea about his grandfather's notorious past and loves him very much. Jagger finds himself falling in love with the young man and, pretending to be a college grad student doing a thesis on farming techniques of the 40's, decides to have several interviews with the ex-Nazi to see if he has reformed himself.

However, he is severely conflicted. Tim, the grandson, cannot abide deceit. He hates lies and liars and believes that people must be honest with each other, especially those in relationships. If Jagger reveals the grandfather's true past, Tim will be crushed. Everything he knew and loved about his grandfather will be destroyed. His own identity will be revealed to Tim, as well, who will realize that he was being lied to by Jagger. But if the man has not reformed, and Jagger conceals the old man's identity, then he will be at odds with his own sense of purpose and justice.

Tim and Jagger do have an argument, as Jagger calls his lover a hypocrite for not being out to his grandfather. Tim denies he is purposefully hiding his sexuality, the topic has just never arisen. Later, Tim decides to tell the old man the truth about himself, but when he does, he isn't sure Hahn heard him.

During one of the interview sessions, Hahn opens up to Jagger and admits that he was involved with the Nazis. We do a flashback to a bare room with two Nazi soldiers cutting out yellow stars and pink triangles from felt. One playfully slaps a yellow star on the other, who angrily tears it off, then grabs a star and sticks it on his partner. They go back and forth, until one of them slaps a pink triangle on the other, who sees it, then looks fearfully into the other's eyes. The other soldier realizes that the man is gay and fearful of being discovered. Slowly, the other soldier picks up a pink triangle and puts it on himself, outing himself to his partner. A look passes between them, and they kiss, leading to a sex scene over a wooden table.

After the sex, as they lie exhausted, the door to the room is thrown open, revealing the silhouette of a Nazi soldier. It is Hahn as a young man. He shouts at the two naked men, who cling to each other fearfully. WE DISSOLVE to a grainy black-and-white picture of the two soldiers, now wearing concentration camp clothing, standing behind a chicken wire fence.

We cut back to the grandfather, who sneers, saying that he did the right thing, that vermin needed to be cleansed from the Third Reich and Germany. When Jagger reveals that he is gay, Hahn spits in his face. Jagger slowly wipes it off, as Jagger tells him that gay people have the right to life, happiness and love. When the old man asks Jagger what manner of lowlife could love another man, especially him, Jagger replies, "Your grandson."

Hahn opens his eyes slightly, licks his lips and smiles crookedly. "Dat fag-got? he croaks.

Jagger looks blankly at the old man, then reaches behind his head and fluffs the grandfather's pillow before pulling it out completely. He gently puts it over Hahn's face and presses firmly.

WE CUT to outside the bedroom. Tim is pacing frenetically. Suddenly, the door opens, and Jagger comes out. He takes Tim in his arms and tells him that his grandfather has quietly and peacefully passed away. As Tim cries into his lover's shoulder, THE CAMERA ZOOMS INTO AN EXTREME CLOSE-UP OF JAGGER'S FACE, staring blankly ahead. He is now in a relationship with the man he loves, a man who demands truth and honesty, but the relationship is built on lies, deceit and the biggest secret of all. FADE TO BLACK.

I had an idea for the box cover, too. It was based on the dvd cover for a movie called TRANSFIXED, a transvestite slasher picture (and pretty good, too).

The bright bar going across the man's eyes would, in my version, angle down to subtly suggest a swastika. Too much? You tell me.

Now, the subject matter is pretty controversial, so I spoke to a few reviewers, models and my buddy JEFFERSON at Channel 1 about it. With one exception, they all thought it was a smashing idea. They loved the personal dramatic conflict and thought there were good opportunities for sex scenes. The Nazi sex scene would be bold, but not exploitative. Jefferson said he would discuss the idea around Channel 1 to get more feedback.

Well, the results are in, and—they don't like it. I don't know if it's the Israeli war, Mel Gibson's drunken ravings, a fear of conservative backlash or something else, but apparently some of Channel 1's biggest buyers were uncomfortable with the idea and said they would be hesitant to purchase a video with such themes.

So where does that leave UNSPEAKABLE? If Red Devil can't make it, perhaps another company can. I'll still write the script, but it will go in the bin until someone decides they'll take a chance on it.
