DANTE: PRE-PRODUCTION
Several months ago, TY HUDSON came to me and asked if he put up the money, would I be willing to produce and co-direct a film with him under the Red Devil label. I agreed, and he sent me a script he'd written called DANTE. It was based on a play by him and had been pretty well-received wherever it had been performed.
Now, this script was ambitious. It began at a house party, had a huge cast, 9 sex scenes, lots of locations and was over 40 pages long! It told the story of a homophobic yet introspective man who discovered that his girlfriend was cheating on him with his best friend. When Dante catches this best friend in the act, thinking it is with his girlfriend, he is shocked to discover that his buddy is with another guy! And worse, it turns him on! Dante and his girlfriend argue and break up. He drinks too much and goes home with a gay friend, and they have sex. The next morning, Dante is disgusted by what he has done, and he leaves. The rest of the story concerns itself with how he comes to terms with his sexuality and gets revenge on his best friend.
I had several problems with the script, the most serious of which was the length. I asked Ty to cut it down to 15 pages and 4 sex scenes. And he tried, oh lord, how he tried. It was like pulling teeth (trust me, I've been there!). Finally, I said, "Look, maybe we're handling this the wrong way. Your investors obviously like the story and the script, so let's not change it too much," to which Ty replied, "Let me do another rewrite."
A week or two later, Ty sent me the new script. And it WAS new. Competely new. Dante is now a gay man who has an argument with his boyfriend and leaves. His best friend is secretly in love with Dante and hopes that this is his opportunity, but Dante rebuffs him. Meanwhile, sinister circumstances are in play as two supernatural entities manipulate events, using Dante and his friends as pawns in order to teach our hero a lesson of existential importance. Sort of "new age" porn, if you like.
Ty is a one-man work force on this project. He drew production sketches from several different angles for the sets, and he designed and created the costumes. Needless to say, he is very excited.
The cast is almost complete: so far, we have TRENT ATKINS, DAMON PHOENIX (on loan from Adonis Pictures), JASON CREW, CHAD HUNT, ZACKARY PIERCE and Ty will be playing three roles himself.
Trent was originally cast to play Dante, who has one sex scene, and so does Chad. A week after casting these two, I got a phone call from Chad.
"Jett Blakk! This is Chad Hunt! I'm mad at you!"
"What did I do now?" I asked.
"You didn't tell me I was doing a scene with Trent Atkins! I've been trying to do a scene with that boy for years!" he gushed. "Trent called me and told me we were doing a scene together! We're so excited!"
Will you both take less money, then? I wondered, but instead, said, "Well, that's great! With all this enthusiasm, it should be a great scene."
"I just think he's the hottest thing right now," he continued. But then, a thought hit me:
Trent Atkins doesn't have a scene with Chad Hunt in this movie. What the hell is he talking about?
"I can't wait!" Chad said. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
"You're welcome," I said, and hung up. Shit! Now, what do I do?
I e-mailed Ty about this and suggested that since they are so hot for each other, that we change Trent's character to the one that DOES have sex with Chad, and he agreed, feeling, as I did, that if there was that much chemistry between them, then we should get it on film. So Trent was no longer Dante, but the boyfriend, who has sex with Chad Hunt and Jason Crew. "Tell Trent they have to double penetrate him," NICK CAPRA said, when I told him the news. lol.
So now, I have to cast Dante. Ty really wants PIERRE FITCH, and I'm trying to track him down. Pierre, if by some chance you're reading this, e-mail me at JETT@REDDEVILWORLD.COM.
Oh, and the other day, OhMan! Studios owner BRUNO RICELLI e-mailed me the dvd cover for MASQUE, which is being released in Europe this month. It will street here soon afterward. It looks pretty good, I think.

Now, at the same time, I'm also in pre-production for my next Red Devil film, HOW TO SEDUCE A STRAIGHT MAN, which I'll get into next tme.
