DANTE: DAYS 1 & 2
Because Ty needed to shave his head and face for a later role, we had to tape the library scene with Dante on Sunday. The owner of the house graciously left us the keys, as he would not be home. LOGAN ROBBINS got lost, and I eventually had to go and get him, but by the time we finished, we had knocked it out in 2 hours' time.
Monday morning, I left at 8:30am for Str8-Up Studios, making note of every 7-11 I passed on the way, as I knew I'd need to send someone to get ice for the coolers. I got there at 9:05, in time to see still photographer ANTHONY DURAN, forever now known as SNAPPY, unloading his equipment. Upon entering the building, I saw a pair of denim-clad legs propped up on the end of a couch. These, I was told, belonged to TRENT ATKINS, who was catching a quick beauty nap, as if he needed it.
I walked onto the set of the Dark Monastery and wow! It looked great! Big stone arch, broken walls of blocks, candles, with a black and white checkerboard floor. They really outdid themselves.
My phone rang. It was BOOMASTER, my best friend, who was p.a.ing that day. TY HUDSON, who was co-directing from his script, was supposed to pick him up at 8:30 and had not shown up yet. I called Ty, who told me he was 10 minutes away from Boo. This made me nervous, as Boo was the first pickup on his stop. He was supposed to get makeup artist DAMON DEVINE next, then EDDIE STONE.
At 9:35, my phone rang again. It was Ty.
"Where am I supposed to meet Eddie Stone?"
"At the corner of Sunset and Highland," I said. "There's a little shopping mall there. He's supposed to be on the corner."
"I don't see him," Ty said.
I bit my lower lip. I had never worked with Eddie before and had no clue as to his temperament. With Ty running an hour late and no cell phone to give him the news, I was afraid that he might have gotten frustrated and gone home. Suddenly, I heard Ty yell, "Eddie? Eddie?" followed by, "Okay, I see him."
"Get here as quick as you can," I said and hung up. Ty wouldn't arrive until 10:30, an hour and a half late for call time. You may have heard me say this before: the first few hours of the first day of the shoot sets the pace for the entire production. And I was about to be proven right again.
CHAD HUNT arrived and woke Trent up so they could chat. I rushed Eddie into makeup so Snappy could do a layout on him. By the time that was finished, we started the first sex scene with Eddie, Chad and Trent. Trent enters the monastery, unaware that he is in danger. Thinking he is meeting a simple escorting client, he meets his match when the two power studs begin to work him over. Now, it was HOT in that studio. For early November, the sun was bright and beating down on everything. The boys were sweating up a storm, and everytime we took a break, Boomaster would turn on the air conditioning to help cool things off. He also found a box fan and used it to pull the hot air out of the room. What I was getting on film was great stuff, but because there was so much starting and stopping, time was slipping away, and we still had several pages of dialogue to do, as well as another sex scene. Also, while scheduling the production, I had forgotten that Chad had to catch a plane back to NY on Tuesday afternoon, and I had dialogue set with him for Tuesday night. I had to move the taping of that scene to the end of the 1st day, which made fpr a heavier burden.
Also, Ty had two long candleholders filled with some synthetic material to hold several candles in place. When the candles eventually burned down to this substance, it caught on fire. Now, there was no danger of the fire spreading; it was completely contained. But that burning synthetic stank like some kind of industrial chemical, which it probably was. Everyone was choking and gasping until we put it out. Snappy was certain he had just contracted cancer from breathing the fumes.
Logan and DAMON PHOENIX showed up on time for their dialogue, but we were nowhere near ready for them, so they hung out with TRENT ATKINS and ZACKARY PIERCE, who had also shown up on time for their sex scene. I had Boomaster set out lunch: a spread of deli-style roast beef, turkey and ham with provolone and muenster cheeses, but Ty had forgotten to bring bread, so the boys rolled the cheese up inside the meat and made "meat wraps".
We finished the sex scene and started the dialogue, finally finishing and starting the 2nd sex scene at 8:00pm. Trent and Zackary had been on set waiting for 7 hours. But to their credit, they didn't utter one single complaint. They're awesome.
And their sex scene went great! Fast, hot and sweaty. Zackary had to stop Ty from sucking him twice because he almost came. We left the studio at 11:30pm and headed to my house. I had phoned CVK earlier in the evening to let him know I was bringing people over, and he said he'd be in bed, so it didn't matter. Ty, Logan, Eddie, Chad, Damon and myself arrived and quickly ran through the first of two scenes. Chad was done, and he hugged everyone goodbye before bolting out the door. Then we shot the 2nd, longer scene with Eddie and Logan, and finially wrapped the first day at 1:30am.
Eddie and Logan left, and I asked Damon to wait in the car while I had a quick word with Ty, who told me later that he knew he was going to "get it", he just didn't know when. lol. I just had a quick word about the importance of being on time and how being late affects the entire production. Ty promised he'd be on time the next day, then left to take Damon home, and I turned off all the lights and climbed the stairs to my bedroom.
CVK was dead to the world, so I took a quick shower to get the day's sweat and grime off of me. I climbed into bed, pushing the cats over so I had more room, patted my baby on the butt and laid back against the pillow with an audible sigh.
It was now 2:00am. Call time for Tuesday was 9. I knew I'd have to get up at 7 at the latest to prep for that day's shoot. I wondered how tired I'd be when I woke up.
That was my last coherent thought before I was out like a light.
