HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Work has slowed down to a crawl. Times are tough for the freelance director. I've been directing for Suite 703, but no movies for any studio. DINK FLAMINGO told me that story porn is dead. Is he right?
NICKCAPRA.COM keeps chugging along, and I'm very appreciative of that. And although we had really hoped to get REDDEVILMEN.COM up and running by the end of the year, technical problems have interfered with that, but it will be very soon, now.
I am also beginning a new venture, and ADventure. Someone recently reminded me what I originally came to California to do. And I think it's time I reset my sights. There will be a big announcement coming in 2010. Stay tuned for it.
Last year, I became diabetic, and to combat it, I have actively been dieting and exercising. I am now 40 pounds and 5 belt notches thinner. I still have a long ways to go, but I'm feeling great and happy with my progress. My blood sugar levels are now in a better range (120 to 140—still high, but my doctor is happy), and I intend to overcome my diabetes. You can follow my success on Facebook and Twitter, as well as other thoughts and minor actions that happen on a daily basis.
Finally, I must apologize for the infrequency of updating my blog. I know you like to read about the behind-the-camera goings-on for my productions, but Suite 703 has a confidentiality clause, preventing me from dishing. However, I will be talking soon about a scene I shot with JEREMY FOX and KYLE SPARKS. It was fun and HOT!.
I want to take a moment to thank the people who really helped me out last year, either monetarily, physically or emotionally: Dink Flamingo, for the work; ROSS CANNON, for the reasonably priced sets; CockyBoys, for the chance; ANTHONY DURAN, for his hard work; DAMON DEVINE, for his cool-headed efforts; MARK NAGEL and STACY BRIDGES, for the Grabbys; TORY MASON, for being a good sport; and BOOMASTER, NICK CAPRA, DREW WARNER, ROBBIE IRELAND, SEAN ABLEY, SCOTT BOARDMAN, ANDREW ROSEN, JOHN ROECKER, SAM PARK, HOWARD ANDREWS, ZACKARY PIERCE, BRANDON BAKER, BAILEEY, TREVOR KNIGHT, MIKE STABILE, JACK SHAMAMA, MARKUS RAM, NASH LAWLER, MIKE DONNER, SISTER ROMA, CHI CHI LARUE and Active Duty's DAVID, among so many others, for being such good friends and being there when I needed them. There are others who would have been on this list, but unfortunately, showed their true colors when the chips were down or a better opportunity arose. You know who you are. Or you should.
And then there are the things that have made me the man I am today, whose influence shaped me: Bud Abbott & Lou Costello, The Marx Brothers (especially Groucho), The Monkees, Gilligan's Island, The Munsters, I Love Lucy, Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, Lily Tomlin, Monty Python, Peanuts, Bugs Bunny and my grandfathers for my sense of humor; The Simpsons, The Smoking Room, Kathy Griffin, Lewis Black, The Daily Show, The Kids in the Hall and Mystery Science Theater 3000 for keeping me laughing; my mother, for my love of horror movies; my father, for my love of opera; Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Phibes and Auntie Mame for being role models; The Monkees, The Andrews Sisters, The Alan Parsons Project, The Beatles, Beethoven, Tshaikovsky, Cole Porter, Ella Fitzgerald, and Andrew Lloyd Webber for the music; the Wolf Man, Dracula, the Mummy, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Godzilla, the Rhedosaurus, the thing, the blob, Them!, The Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, Sammy Terry, the Teenage Werewolf, the Teenage Frankenstein, Paul Naschy, the She-Creature, Count Yorga, Blacula, Leatherface, Michael Myers, among so many others for the scares; and Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, Roger Corman, William Castle, John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Tobe Hooper, Terry Gilliam, Danny Boyle and more for showing me how to escape.
And finally...CVK, my husband, lover, soul mate, confidante, best friend, financial advisor, handyman, encyclopedia, computer technician and sounding board for his love, devotion, patience, hard work and for just being there when I need a hug. I would not be where I am without him. I would not be happy without him. He has changed my life for the better and made me a better person. He has given me love and happiness, and those are the greatest gifts that anyone can give another person.
And that is my New Year's wish for you. I wish you find love and happiness in the next year, and if you already have it, that you continue to enjoy it.
Happy 2010!
JBK
